Virat Kohli creates another record, becomes first player to get all three major ICC awards

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has become the first player in history to win three major ICC awards in a single year for his performances in 2018. Kohli won all three top awards including Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC cricketer of the year, ICC Men’s Test player of the year and ICC ODI player of the year.

The 30-year-old becomes the first player to win all three of top awards after being named captain of the Test and ODI teams of the year by ICC earlier in the day. Kohli also won the Sir Garfield Sobers trophy and the ICC ODI player of the year trophy last year as well. 


Kohli scored 1,322 runs at an average of 55.08 in 13 Tests with five hundreds during the calendar year while in 14 ODIs he amassed 1202 runs at an astonishing average of 133.55 with six centuries. He also scored 211 runs in 10 T20Is.

The Virat Kohli-led ODI team won their first ever bilateral series in Australia by 2-1 on January 18. Earlier this month, India also became the first Asian team to win a Test series on Australian soil, India won the series by 2-1 and this was their first win in Australia in their 71 year of cricket history.

India will now play New Zealand in a five-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series starting from January 23.
