Sushant became a favourite of cricket lovers, having done two cricket-based films. His first movie, Kai Po Che, saw him playing the role of a unsuccessful district-level cricketer who coached a Muslim boy and helped him represent India at the international level.

The actor drew the maximum fame when he played the role of MS Dhoni, in his biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. Sushant drew huge applause from fans for the way he played the role of Dhoni in the film and portrayed his style of batting with near perfection.
