India head coach Ravi Shastri has said India won't play the 2019 World Cup if the government says so amid the Indo-Pakistan tensions. "The government and BCCI know exactly what's happening. They will take a call. If the government says it's that sensitive that you don't need to play the World Cup, I will go with my government," he added.

In an exclusive interview to Mirror Now's Faye D'Souza, Shastri also said that he didn’t even know about the incident between Kumble and Kohli as he was doing commentary when all the reports surrounding the incident emerged. Shastri went on to reveal that he didn’t even apply for the role for the first time and it was the second time when he applied for the position.

Meanwhile, under Shastri, the Men in Blue have done exceedingly well across formats. Team India is currently ranked the No. 1 Test side and No. 2 in ODIs as well as T20Is. Under Shastri, the Kohli-led side won a historic Test series against Australia, becoming the first Asian side to do so in 71 years.

The 2019 World Cup starts on May 30, with England and South Africa playing the opener of the tournament. Team India will also play their series opener against South Africa on June 6. England and India are going into the tournament as everyone’s favorite. The 2019 World Cup is taking place in England and Wales.
