Pragyan Ojha announces retirement from professional cricket with immediate effect

Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha announced on Friday that he will be calling it a day from professional cricket with immediate effect.

Ojha, who made his international debut in 2008, played professional cricket for sixteen years. in spite of not featuring in an international circuit, the 33-year-old was playing domestic cricket untill 2019.


"It’s time I move on to the next phase of my life. The love and support of each and every individual will always remain with me and motivate me all the time," Pragyan Ojha posted on Twitter with a long message.

Ojha reached World No.5 as his career best in ICC Players Rankings and will be looked back on as the first and one of the two spinners to ever win the purple cap in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In 2014 Pragyan Ojha was banned from bowling in competitive cricket after his action was found to be unlawful. Later on 30th January 2015 Ojha cleared the test and was authorized to bowl again. Ojha played his first ODI match against Bangladesh on 28th June 2008 in Karachi and ended the game with the figure of 2/43.

Ojha had previously featured for Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Ojha had so far played 24 Tests and 18 ODIs for the men in blue. The spinner cumulated 113 wickets in Tests and 21 in limited over format.
