  • MS Dhoni has suffered a back spasm just a day before India\'s first match in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh.
  • The extent of Dhoni\'s injury is not known yet, with fears that he may miss more than one match in the tournament.
  • Parthiv Patel has been called in as a replacement for the injured Indian captain.

Owing to a muscle spasm suffered in a training session on Monday, Indian skipper MS Dhoni is a doubtful starter for India's first Asia Cup match.

Although the extent of the injury is not known yet, the BCCI has named Parthiv Patel as Dhoni's replacement, who will soon be joining the team in Bangladesh for the Asia Cup.

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said in a statement,

"India ODI and T20I captain MS Dhoni has suffered a muscle spasm in the back during a training session today in Dhaka. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Parthiv Patel as the back-up wicketkeeper for the upcoming Asia Cup, 2016. He will join the team in Dhaka at the earliest."

Young pacer Jasprit Bumrah too missed the training session on Monday. Team sources said that Bumrah was a "little under the weather and advised rest."

Wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel, 30, last played for India in 2012 against Sri Lanka in Brisbane and plays for Gujrat in the domestic circuit.
