IPL Betting Scam: Salman Khan's brother Arbaaz Khan summoned by Thane police in IPL betting; asked to join probe

Arbaaz Khan, an actor turned filmmaker has been summoned by the Thane Police in connection with an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting scam, multiple media reports said. The Thane police summoned Salman Khan's brother Arbaaz Khan at his Bandra-based residence on Friday afternoon. The 50-year-old actor was asked to be present during the probe as it needed to investigate the Mumbai-based scandal.

As per reports, police had recently busted an international betting ring and had arrested 42-year-old bookie, Sonu Jalan alias Sonu Batla, who allegedly operated in the country as well as abroad. Jalan is reportedly linked with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Actor-Producer Arbaaz Khan summoned by Thane Police for probe in IPL betting case. He has to appear tomorrow to join investigation. Summons were issued to him after a bookie Sonu Jalan was arrested and interrogated by Police, news agency ANI tweeted.

Sonu Jalan was held from Kalyan court in Mumbai where he had come to meet one of the arrested accused in the betting case. Jalan met the person to know about the investigation into the IPL case. When the cops were tipped about his meeting, it alerted the officers and laid a trap outside Kalyan court. During the investigation, it was revealed that Jalan was in contact with Arbaaz Khan. Jalan was first arrested in 2008 for betting during IPL. The police have also found pictures of him with Arbaaz Khan.

As per the TV reports, Arbaaz placed the bet through top bookies. Arbaaz was summoned after cops arrest top bookie.

It has been reported that many Bollywood celebrities are associated with Sonu Jalan, reported Financial Express.

The 11th edition of the Indian Premier League 2018 concluded on May 27 with the final between Kane Williamson's Sunrisers Hyderabad and MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings overcame SRH to lift the trophy for the third time.
