IPL 2019: From Chris Gayle to Suresh Raina take a look at IPL trendsetters and its memorable firsts

There’s first time for everything and we are going to tell you about the Indian Premier League trendsetters and their memorable firsts. Let’s take a look at some of the records made for the first time in IPL.

The first IPL century was by Kolkata Knight Riders’ Brendon McCullum when he scored an unbeaten 158 runs in a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Manish Pandey was the first Indian batsman to score a century against Deccan Chargers in 2009. Pandey hit an unbeaten 114 runs.


The first batsman to reach 100 sixes mark in IPL was Chris Gayle in 2012 and the first Indian to achieve that milestone was Suresh Raina in 2013. Suresh Raina was also the first player to play 100 IPL matches.

Adam Gilchrist was the first player to score 1000 IPL runs in 2010, while Suresh Raina was the first Indian to achieve that feat in 2010 as well.

Delhi Daredevils’ Gautam Gambhir and Shikhar Dhawan were first batsmen to make a hundred run partnership stand in a match against Rajasthan Royals in 2008. They stitched 112 runs partnership. First 200 run partnership was between Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh in 2011. Playing for Kings XI Punjab they scored 206 runs together against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Rajasthan Royals' Sohail Tanvir was the first bowler to pick up 5-fer in the IPL as he registered a bowling figure of 6/14 in a match against Chennai Super Kings in 2008. Laxmipathy Balaji became the first Indian to pick up 5-fer as he registered a bowling figure of 5/24. Chennai’s Balaji achieved that feat against Kings XI Punjab in 2008. He also became the first bowler to take hat-trick in the same match.

In 2013, Mumbai Indians’ Lasith Malinga became the first bowler to pick 100 wickets in IPL, while first Indian bowler to reach that milestone was Amit Mishra in 2014. The first tied game in the history of IPL was a match between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2009.

The dates for 2019 edition of Indian Premier League have been announced by the organisers. Defending champions Chennai Super Kings will play Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opener on March 23 in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

However, the dates announced are only for first seventeen matches, where each team will play a minimum of 4 matches each while Delhi and Bangalore will play five matches. Every team will play two away and two home matches with Delhi playing three home matches and Bangalore playing three away games.
