After the dramatic draw of the first Test match between India and Sri Lanka, the Indian team managed to win the second Test match of the three-match series by an innings and 239 runs. The Indian spinner R Ashwin overtook Dennis Lillee and became the fastest bowler to take 300 Test wickets.

R Ashwin managed to achieve this feat just in the 54 matches. Dennis had taken 56 matches to achieve the same landmark. However, the best thing about R Ashwin's record is that Dennis had become the fastest bowler to reach the landmark of 300 Test wicket on the same day 36 years ago. On 27 Nov 1981, Dennis Lillee took 300th Test wicket and now on 27 Nov 2017 Ravi Ashwin broke Dennis Lillee's record of fastest 300 Test wickets.

The Chennai lad had taken four wickets in the first inning for the 67 runs and then again four wickets in the second inning for 63 runs. With 8 wickets in the second Test match against Sri Lanka, R Ashwin became the first Indian bowler who had taken 50 or more than 50 wickets in three consecutive years. Other than Ashiwn only Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan have achieved this feat.

Ashwin had taken 72 wickets in the calendar year 2016 and 62 wickets in the calendar year 2015 and if Ashwin's current form is anything to say then he is likely to take 55+ wickets this year.

R Ashwin has also achieved the landmark of fastest 250 Test wickets. Ashwin (181 Test wicket under the captaincy of Virat Kohli) had also broken the record of legendary bowler of India Anil Kumble's record of taking 179 Test wickets (Under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin) under one skipper.
