Blow to Kiwis! Jimmy Neesham ruled out of 1st Test against India

In a major setback to New Zealand, all-rounder Jimmy Neesham has been ruled out of the upcoming first Test of the three-match series against India due to a rib injury.

Reflecting on Neesham's injury, New Zealand coach Mike Hesson said that the 26-year old sustained the injury during a training session last week, which had also affected his involvement in the warm-up game against Mumbai in New Delhi.

"Jimmy was struck in the nets and has been in discomfort the last few days. It will take a few days for the bruising to go away, but it's very much a short-term injury," Hesson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

However, Neesham, who has not played in international cricket since the recurrence of a back injury last November, is expected to be fit for the second Test, which is starting from September 30.

With this, Neesham has become the second player from the squad to pull out of the Test match against India. Earlier Tim Southee had to return home with a ligament strain on his left ankle.

The revised New Zealand squad for the first Test beginning on 22 September in Kanpur is as follows:

Kane Williamson (c), Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Mark Craig, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Henry Nicholls, Luke Ronchi, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Ross Taylor, Neil Wagner, BJ Watling.
