The 2012 Delhi gang rape, the darkest night for every mother, father, brother across the country when their daughter was brutally sexually assaulted by 6 bus in a moving bus on Delhi street in Munirka. Director Neelima Azeem and Sanjay Singh's feature film trailer 'Delhi Bus' on Nirbhaya rape case is a glimpse of a haunting ride of the assault that a brave daughter of our nation had to bear. This film is a tribute to Nirbhaya on her 16th death anniversary.

The movie stars Divya Singh as Nirbhaya and Aajjan Srivastav as her friend. The movie Delhi Bus trailer is out and will take you back to the one of the darkest day of our nation.


Nirbhaya gang-rape case:

The 16 December 2012, a night when 23-year-old Physiotherapy intern was heinously raped, beaten, tortured in a moving private bus also iron rods were inserted into her private part. Nirbahaya was accompanied by her friend. The duo was returning home after watching the film, Life-of Pie in Saket.

The 23-year-old was raped by 6 men including driver and his friend was brutally beaten. After committing the crime the accused threw Nirbhaya and her friend on Delhi street and the partially clothed victims were found lying in a pool of blood for several hours. Eleven days after fighting with all the pain Nirbhaya died from her injuries.

This incident triggered a huge protest across the country, people did candle march on streets and at India Gate demanding justice for Nirbhaya and raised the question on women safety in Delhi and across the country.

The real name of 2012 Delhi rape victim was not revealed as Indian law does not allow the press to publish a rape victim's name. After which the victim has become widely known as Nirbhaya, meaning "fearless."

All the accused were arrested and charged with sexual assault and murder. One of the accused, Ram Singh, died in police custody from possible suicide on 11 March 2013 in the Tihar Jail.

As per published reports, On 5 May 2017, the Supreme Court rejected the convicts' appeal and upheld the death sentence saying they had committed "a barbaric crime" that had "shaken society's conscience," the court upheld the death sentence of the four who had been charged in the murder. On 9 July 2018, the Supreme Court rejected a review petition by three of the convicts.
