In a bid to save children who accidentally fall into borewells, a doctor in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh has invented a machine known as the earthscope.

The earthscope will help rescuers in providing oxygen and light to the child. Also he/she can be heard talking while being rescued.

They can also monitor the child through a video camera which will be installed in the device.

Who is the inventor?

  • Dr Dinesh Khare, the inventor of this device, believes that the children usually die inside the borewell because of suffocation and fear.
  • He said that the rescuers provide oxygen to the child, but because of darkness and inability to talk to anyone, the child gets scared and dies either due to suffocation or heart failure.

How does the device work?

  • The earthscope can go up to 400 feet inside the ground, reaching the child within 10 minutes.
  • It takes 40 minutes to assemble the device, before it can be used for saving the child.
