Twitter flare ups after Athletics Federation of India's word for Pakistani athlete

The Athletics Federation of India was eulogized for congratulating Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, after the javelin thrower won gold at the South Asian Games and made it to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"Congrats #ArshadNadeem, javelin star of #Pakistan for winning gold at #SAGames2019 with a throw of 86.48m (PB & New Pakistani record) Qualified for #Tokyo2020 Olympics, first Pakistani athlete in decades to earn direct qualification," the Athletics Federation of India tweeted on Saturday, along with an old image of Nadeem with India’s Neeraj Chopra.

Nadeem threw 86.29 metres to win the gold medal in Nepal, with India’s Shivpal Singh finishing in the second spot. With the Olympic qualification standard set at 85 meters, he also booked a place for the event in Tokyo next year, while on the other hand, Shivpal missed out with a best effort of 84.43 meters.

The Athletics Federation of India's tweet won many hearts and responses started pouring in.

"The best thing on internet today. This is actually message of love and peace," one Twitter user wrote.

"Respect from Pakistan. That's how should we grow together. Best of luck," another user tweeted.
