Indian ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, on 28 August, presented BMW cars to Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu, bronze winner Sakshi Malik, gymnast Dipa Karmakar and badminton coach Pullela Gopichand at a function in Hyderabad.

The BMW cars, were bought by Hyderabad-based businessman Chamundeshwarnath, who also is the president Hyderabad District Badminton Association, was behind the initiative of the felicitation ceremony, India Today reported.

Speaking at the event, Olympic silver medallist thanked her coach Pullela Gopichand for standing by far and supporting her throughout her journey so far.

Dipa, who seemed taken away by the massive support, said that she did not expect this much love and appreciation even though she did not win a medal.

Thanking all the three athletes, Gopichand said, "No time before has the nation's pride been saved by what these three ladies have done. Last time we had a bronze. Today we are here with a silver. Sachin's support is greatly appreciated. Hopefully, this will drive us to perform better in the future."

Under the guidance of chief coach Gopichand, Sindhu became the first woman badminton player to win a silver medal in Olympics. Rohtak girl, Sakhshi Malik, won bronze in the women's 58 kg freestyle. However, Dipa missed a medal by a whisker as she finished fourth in artistic gymnastics.
