Why you should buy OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition
A leading premium category manufacturer should listen to its consumers: Perhaps this maxim drove OnePlus too announce a OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition on Thursday to coincide with the Friday release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
OnePlus has gone from ‘Never settle’ to ‘Strong enough to rule the galaxy’ and no one is complaining. The smartphone is exactly similar to the OnePlus 5T (review here: http://www.catchnews.com/science-technology/oneplus-5t-is-no-oneplus-3t-this-time-the-force-has-truly-awoken-92523.html) under the hood. It’s the exterior that makes for the extra charm. Oh, and that wonderful Star Wars theme.
The Star Wars edition of the OnePlus 5T comes with Sandstone finish, just like the company’s first two – OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 – smartphones. It features a white paint job, black power button, SIM tray, and volume rocker. There is also that gorgeous red alert slider. There is also a Star Wars logo on the rear.
The smartphone comes with a specially crafted Star Wars theme. It’s a dark theme with red accents layered throughout the OS. The company wouldn’t deny the possibility of this theme coming to other OnePlus devices in the future. There are also 10 Star Wars wallpapers preloaded onto the device. Every single person who purchases this smartphone – available for booking until 22 December – will get a special Kylo Ren case.
As mentioned above, the internal specification remains identical to the Midnight Black OnePlus 5T unleashed on the public last month. It comes with a gorgeous 6-inch bezel-less AMOLED panel, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There is a dual-camera – 16-megapixel sensor alongside a 20-megapixel sensor – at the back and a 16-megapixel shooter on the front. The phone has global LTE bands, Bluetooth 5.0 and a 3,300 mAh battery equipped with the ever-popular Dash Charger.
The OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition is already on sale on Amazon India, OnePlus’ online store and at the experience centre in Bangalore. OnePlus said that this is a limited run in India and a few Nordic countries. It will be on sale till units sell out – the company wouldn’t divulge just how many it has manufactured – and therefore is just a single production run. OnePlus did mention that the collaboration was primarily aimed at India, its fastest-growing hub outside of China.
The limited edition costs Rs 38,999 -- just a grand more than the regular edition. That is an absolute steal. OnePlus could have charged a premium, and they chose not to.
While the availability is strictly limited to a few countries and is bound to piss off a lot of the company’s fans, it is likely to fly off the shelves. Grab one while you can because the stocks may just be less than anticipated.
