Shocker! 16-year-old girl gang-raped by 30 men in hotel; PM calls it shocking
In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by 30 men in the Red Sea resort of Eilat in Israel.
The shameful incident has sparked rage in the country. According to the reports, the alleged perpetrators said to be in their early 20s.
They committed the crime by standing in a queue outside the minor’s hotel bedroom and then raped her one-by-one in an inebriated condition.
The gang-rape case has prompted protests in several Israeli cities on Thursday.
However, the girl somehow reported the alleged crime to Eilat police last week but it had gone unnoticed then.
"Two suspects have been arrested in connection with an incident that took place in Eilat involving a 16-year-old female teenager," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP.
The massive protests in the major cities of Israel i.e. Tel Aviv and Jerusalem on Thursday prompted the leaders to speak on crime against women.
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “It's shocking -- there's no other word for it.” He also said that all the suspects to be put on trial.
"It's not only a crime against a young girl, it's a crime against humanity itself that deserves condemnation from all of us."
President Reuven Rivlin wrote an open letter to Israel's youth.
"Sexual assault, rape, sexual exploitation, sexual violence - these are some of the stains that cannot be deleted," he said.
"These are cases of unforgivable loss of boundaries, and they destroy us as a society. As humans."
Last year, a 19-year-old British woman had allegedly been gang-raped by 12 Israeli males, aged 15 to 18, at a hotel in Cyprus.
However, she was later found guilty of lying about being gang-raped and awarded a four-month suspended sentence.
