Former US President George H.W. Bush hospitalised with blood infection, a day after wife Barbara's funeral

The 93-year-old former President of US George H.W. Bush has been hospitalised due to infection in Houston. He was hospitalised after attending the funeral of his late wife Barbara Bush.

Spokesperson Jim McGrath confirmed on Twitter that the former President was admitted after infection and is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering. He shared an official statement, He has admitted Sunday morning to Houston Methodist Hospital after an infection spread to his blood."

On Saturday the former first lady Barbara Bush laid to rest. A ceremony was attended by husband George H.W. Bush, former presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, George W. Bush and their wives and current first lady Melania Trump. Barbara and George H.W. Bush were married for 73 years, which is the longest presidential marriage in US history.

Bush has not been keeping well for long. He uses a wheelchair and an electric scooter for mobility. He suffers from Parkinson’s disease. He has been under treatment several times for respiratory problems.

Former Governor of Florida and son of Barbara and George H.W. Bush, Jeb Bush disclosed, "I think Dad got sick on purpose so that he could be with her.” Last year Bush senior was hospitalised for two weeks for treatment of pneumonia and chronic bronchitis.

He also was hospitalized in 2015 in Maine after falling at home and breaking a bone in his neck, and in December 2014 for about a week for shortness of breath. He spent Christmas 2012 in intensive care for a bronchitis-related cough and other issues.
