UP: Youth tied to pole, burnt with hot water by girlfriend’s kin; succumbs to injuries

In what was a chilling incident that took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh. A 22-year-old youth was tied to a pole and thrashed before hot water was poured on him, allegedly by family members of his girlfriend in Chewata village which falls under the jurisdiction of Kaptanganj police station on Wednesday.

The victim succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital after being rescued, said police. The incident happened when the youth went to the girl’s house during wee hours on Wednesday to see her.


Five people, including the girl, her two brothers and two others have been taken into custody in the case.

The victim was in love with the 19 -year-old girl, who lives in his neighborhood, for the past one year. Both their families opposed to the relationship which led to the victim being sent away to Ghaziabad by his family around a year ago said a police officer.

According to the officer, the victim had come back to the village about a month ago and on the day of the incident, slipped into his girlfriend’s house in the early hours.

The girl’s family members woke up after listening him talk with the girl and laid their hands on Manish. Later, they tied him to a pole and beat him up. They also poured hot water on the victim. Once his condition worsened, they called up police claiming they had caught a thief who had entered their house, said police.

Police team rescued the youth after reaching the spot and rushed him to the district hospital where doctors declared him dead. His body has been sent for autopsy.

Anand Kumar Singh, Kaptanganj police station inspector stated that five people have been arrested after a case was lodged under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) following a complaint by the deceased’s brother, Anil Kumar.

Further investigation is underway.
