A 17-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her father in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district over an affair she was having after marrage, police said on Tuesday.

The accused , Subhash, allegedly cut his daughter’s throat as she was not willing to record statement against her lover, Chhotkau, in a case lodged by him on 20th June, Superintendent of Police Vipin Mishra stated.

The accused father was taken into custody on Monday, police said.

The girl was married off some days ago but she was living with her father, the SP said, adding she had a love affair with Chhotkau, whose uncle Ibrahim is a village head.

SP Vipin Mishra said a probe has been ordered into the child marriage.

Chhotkau was sent to jail on 23rd June after an FIR was registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on a complaint.

SP Vipin Mishra stated that Subhash also filed an FIR against Ibrahim and others for allegedly killing his daughter.

According to him Subhash was allegedly angry with his daughter as she "brought a bad name to" his family because of the affair.
