UAE: Kerala man tries to save wife from fire, sustains 90 percent burn injuries

In a shocking incident came to light from United Arab Emirates (UAE) where a man suffered serious burn injuries while trying to save his wife from a fire at his apartment in Umm Al Quwain in Dubai, police said on Wednesday.

The man from Kerala sustained 90 percent burn injuries and is fighting for his life at the Mafraq hospital in Abu Dhabi, Khaleej Times reports said.


"Doctors said his condition is very critical. We are all praying for him," said July, Anil Ninan's relative who is in the hospital.

 

However, his wife Neenu’s condition stable who was admitted to the same hospital.

"She is doing okay. She has only 10 percent burns and is recovering," said the relative. The Kerala based couple had a 4-year-old son.

The accident took place on Monday night when a fire caused by a short circuit from the electric box placed in the corridor of their apartment in Umm Al Quwain. The couple was then rushed to the hospital in Umm al Quwain on Monday night. Later, he was shifted to the Mafraq hospital in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday for critical care, Rev Sojan Thomas, vicar of St Thomas Mar Thoma Church in Ras Al Khaimah, told Khaleej Times.

However, the real cause behind the fire is still unknown. But Neenu first caught fire while she was in the corridor. Anil who was in the bedroom approached his wife to save her. He was trying to save her when the flames spread to him, media reports.
