Rajasthan: Hands tied, on oxygen support; patient raped by ward boy in ICU
In an appalling incident reported from Jaipur hospital in Rajasthan, a woman patient has been raped by a ward boy. The incident took place in Jaipur’s Shalby Hospital on Monday night.
The accused ward boy constantly sexually assaulted the woman patient who was admitted in the ICU. The victim had undergone surgery and was later shifted to ICU.
The victim had a mask and her hands were fastened. Following the incident, the woman kept on weeping the entire night. When she tried to apprise a nurse regarding the incident, she was silenced by the accused by threatening her, according to a report in Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar.
Later, the woman gave an account of the incident to her husband. According to the victim’s husband she was taken to Shalby hospital after she fell ill. Later, she was operated upon.
The victim’s husband was told by hospital employees that he cannot stay with the patient. The husband then went back home. When the husband came back in the morning, the woman cried and narrated her ordeal in writing as she was not able to talk.
In the meantime, the police stated that they are investigating the matter and looking at the CCTV recording. "This incident is very serious. The woman's husband filed a case at Chitrakoot police station. The police have initiated the probe to identify the accused by taking into custody the duty roster and CCTV footage. The accused lives on Agra Road. We have arrested the accused and are questioning him," DCP Pradeep Mohan Sharma.
"So far, our probe has revealed that there were two rooms in the ICU. While a female nurse was attending to patients in one room, the male nurse was attending to patients in another room. And it was this time that the accused molested the woman. We have nabbed the accused. We are looking at CCTV to look for the involvement of other people in the incident. The accused has been identified as Khushiram Gujjar, a resident of Nadoti tehsil in Karoli district," the report quoted Investigating Officer as saying.
