Punjab: 4 children charred to death after school van catches fire

No less than four kids were burnt alive after their school van caught fire in Punjab’s Sangrur district. 12 children were in the van when the incident happened, eight were saved from danger, said police.

The sufferers were of the age group 10-12 years and were returning from school.


Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh took to twitter and wrote about the accident and stated that culpable people won’t be spared.

"Very sad to learn of the news from Sangrur, where we lost 4 children because their school van caught fire. Injured have been rushed to the hospital. DC & SSP Sangrur are on the spot and I have ordered a magisterial enquiry. Guilty will be strictly punished," he said.

The incident happened on the Longowal-Sidsamachar road, PTI quoted the police as saying.

Eight kids were safely withdrawn from the van by people working in nearby fields, said police.

The cause of the fire in the school van has not been ascertained.
