A 24-year-old man was allegedly tied to a pole and set ablaze over his repeated bad behavious in an intoxicated condition.
Infuriated over his alcohol addiction, his family members tied him to a pole, saturated him with petrol and set him on fire on Tuesday. The incident happened in Kadalimunda village under the jurisdiction of Handapa police station in Odisha’s Angul district.
The now deceased, identified as Rajkishore Pradhan, sustained 80 per cent burn injuries. He was taken to Athmallik hospital in the district where doctors declared him dead. The body has been sent for a autopsy.
The state police have taken his mother, Basanti Pradhan, sister and elder brother Subash Pradhan into custody in connection with the crime. Police also suspect it to be the fallout of past enmity.
Reportedly, the victim often had disagreement with other family members in the house after consuming liquor on regular basis.
Talking to India Today, Angul Police SP Jagmmohan Meena stated, "The mother, sister and the elder brother of the deceased have been arrested. He [Rajkishore] used to quarrel and harass the family members in an inebriated state which had triggered the incident on the fateful night."
