Martyred Major Prasad Mahadik’s wife to join Army as tribute to him; says, ‘I will wear his uniform and his stars’

Martyred Major Prasad Mahadik’s wife Gauri Mahadik will be joining Indian Army as a tribute to him. Major Mahadik lost his life n a fire at his shelter in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, in December 2017. Gauri Mahadik in an interview to news agency ANI said that her husband Major Mahadik always wanted her to be happy and smiling and that is a reason that made her join the profession of arms after the untimely demise of her husband.

"10 days after his demise, I was thinking about what should I do now. I decided that I've to do something for him and that I'll join the forces and wear his uniform and his stars. I will join Army next year as a lieutenant after hardcore training at OTA in Chennai," she told news agency ANI.


Gauri Mahadik will be undergoing the training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai where her husband late Major Prasad Mahadik was trained before joining the Army. Gauri decided to join the Army at a time when over 40 CRPF personnel were killed in Pulwama by Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist.

"He always wanted me to be happy and smiling. I decided I'll join the forces, I'll wear his uniform, his stars on our uniform. Our uniform because it will be his and my uniform," she further said. Gauri, then 26 was married to him for two years. She will be joining the army as a lieutenant.

The 31-year-old Major Mahadik, an officer from 7 Bihar regiment of the Indian Army died in a fire on December 30, 2017, when he was posted in Tawang along the Indo-China border.
