India's mobile data traffic is growing at 67%. But this might fall soon

Growth in telecommunication services is an important indicator to measure economy, especially when the world is going digital.In this background, there is the bad news that data business of smartphones is falling. The reason - markets in the metros are saturated.

  • In 2014, the data consumed was 87.9 petabytes.

  • Data usage of the top four telecom operators for the quarter ending on September 2015, according to a report in Medianama.
  • In total, these telecom operators have 86 million 3G and 109 2G connections, of which 8 million 3G connections and 1 million 2G connection were added and lost respectively for the quarter ending September.
  • Interestingly, data consumed on mobile increased by 127% though mobile internet users only increased by 40%, from March 2014 to September 2015, clearly signifying that people were consuming more data on mobile.
