A 16-year-old girl was raped and attacked by a man who she knew in Delhi’s Netaji Subhash Place on Wednesday, a day after another minor girl, who was 12-year-old had been sexually violated and beaten up in Paschim Vihar.

The state of the Paschim Vihar victim is said to be critical as she is going through treatment in AIIMS.

In the Netaji Subhash Place case, a 24-year-old suspect from northwest Delhi has been taken into custody after three days of search. The man, police claimed, had taken the victim to a private hospital after the crime, got her admitted and ran away. The girls condition is now stable, the police said.

Investigating officers stated that suspect is a driver by profession and resides in the same locality as the girl. The victim in her statement has told the police that he knew him from past one month, said police, quoting the victim’s statement.

On Wednesday, according to the officer, the suspect contacted the girl over the phone and told her he wanted to meet, but she said no. Around 2 pm, he came to her place and managed to persuade her to come to his house on the pretext of discussing something with the victim.

“At his home, he pushed her and raped her. When the girl sustained injuries and started bleeding, he panicked and took her to a private hospital, where the girl informed her mother on phone. He fled, even as the girl’s mother reached the hospital,” the officer, quoting her statement, said. The victim’s mother later told her husband and they shifted her to a government hospital, where she went through a surgery.

According to police data 636 cases of rape were registered in Delhi till 30th June this year. Though, this figure is 338 cases less than what was reported during the same period in 2019, it is still alarming in a city that is infamous as the rape capital of India. Also,at least 813 molestation cases were filed till 30th June 2020, compared to 1,460 such cases in 2019.

On Tuesday, a minor girl was sexually assaulted inside her residence before being stabbed multiple times by a 33-year-old man. The man (Krishan) after being arrested told the police that he entered her house with a motive to rob. The girl has already gone through a surgery and is expecting another surgery in AIIMS.
