Coronavirus: UP man shot dead after he allegedly criticized Tablighi Jamaat for spreading Covid-19 in India

A man from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj was shot dead outside a tea stall near his house after he allegedly threw brickbats at Tablighi Jamaat for spreading coronavirus in India.

The victim was talking about the Tablighi Jamaat gathering in Delhi’s Nizamuddin which has caused several hundreds of Covid-19 cases being unearthed across states. He got into an argument with another person at the tea stall.


As maintained by the police, the incident happened at 9:30 am on Sunday when the two entered into an argument and the dispute quickly intensified.

The victim died on the spot. Locals in the area caught the accused and handed him over to the police. The man has been taken into custody.

In the meantime, Prayagraj SSP has made an appeal to the people to maintain peace and not to bring about tension over the incident.

Uttar Pradesh government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victims family.

Police arrived at the crime spot after a call from locals and took the accused into custody. Currently, heavy police force has been deployed in the area to maintain peace.
