AP: 23-year-old youth slits girl's throat after she turns down marriage proposal

A 23-year-old youth allegedly attacked a girl and cut her throat after she turned down his marrage proposal. The incident happened in Visakhapatnam’s One Town area on Wednesday. The accused asked the girl to marry her a few months ago.

The accused was identified as Srikanth and the victim as Priyanka(20). The two of them lived in a neighbourhood. Both the girl and the accused are undergoing treatment and are now out of danger.


Previously, Srikanth and his parents approached the victim's family, asking for her hand. The accused was allegedly upset over the same. At around 8.45 am on Wednesday, the accused forced into the girl's house and cut her throat. The accused later attempted to do the same.

The room where the girl was attacked had been locked from the outside. When the girl's brother opened the door, he found her injured, According to a report by News Minute. The victim's sister alleged that she refused to marry the accused and said that she would marry a man of her parents' choice.

The police filed Section 307 (attempt to murder), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrong­ful restraint), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 309 (suicide attempt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
