Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly in trouble; BCCI asks them to choose between IPL and commentary

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a diktat to Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman to choose between IPL duties, commentary and administration. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly are currently performing commentary duties in ongoing World Cup in England and Wales.

The decision will have an impact on many former cricketers who will have to choose between IPL duties, administration and coaching duties. The conflict of interest clause in BCCI’s new constitution states that, “It is clarified that no individual may occupy more than one of the following posts at a single point of time except where prescribed under these rules: a) player (current), (b) selector/member of the cricket committee, (c) team official, (d) commentator, (e) match official, (f) administrator/office-bearer… (p) owner of a cricket academy.”

A former member of Madhya Pradesh cricket association, Sanjeev Gupta lodged conflict cases against Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman over performing IPL duties and other administrative duties as well.

Ganguly is chief of Bengal cricket association and member of cricket advisory committee, Laxman is the mentor of Indian Premier League franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad and cricket advisory committee member. Sachin is the mentor of Mumbai Indians and member of cricket advisory committee member.
