Shark attacks 16-year-old surfer; spine-chilling video goes viral

In a horrifying incident, a 16-year-old boy got badly injured after a shark attacked him. The footage of the incident also went viral on social media.

The teenage boy was surfing at New Smyrna Beach when he was bitten by a shark.

The incident took place when Georgia teenager, Doyle Nielson, was paddling in the water on September 9 when a shark came up behind him and bit him on his arm.

"It felt like someone on their surfboard has come full speed directly at me and hit me super hard," Nielson told Good Morning America. "And then after somebody had yelled, ‘There’s a shark, get out of there,’ I realized what it was."

The spine-chilling video was shared by Sam Scribner, a quadriplegic photographer, on his Instagram account. He posted the clip to make sure whether the surfer was ok.

After Nielson saw the video, he also commented, “I’m really lucky!" he replied under the video. "I walked away with only 9 stitches required. So cool you got this on camera!”

New Smyrna Beach is famous for the shark bite capital of the world. According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Nielson’s shark bite incident is the 10th such case reported in Volusia County this year.
