British Airways said, this technology will make the boarding procedure smoother and reduce errors.

According to a report in The Bloomberg, British Airways said, biometric devices at the main security-screening area in Terminal 5 and a facial scan at the gate to verify the person's identity will allow them to get on the plane without showing documents.

Initially, the system will be used only for domestic routes and then will be extended to international flights.

As of now, three gates have been equipped with this technology and another 33 planned in the coming months, the carrier said, reported a leading daily.

British Airways is a part of four-year reorganization under Chief Executive Officer Alex Cruz that includes investments to improve passengers' flight access.

BA already has self-service luggage check-in desks at both Heathrow and London Gatwick airports.

"The addition of self-boarding gates, along with self-serve bag drop points, are just two of the ways in which we are investing in areas our customers value most," Troy Warfield, director of customer experience at the airline, was quoted by The Bloomberg as saying.

Other airports to follow suit
