One of the finest Indian actors and Malayalam superstar Mammootty celebrated his 66th birthday on Thursday. Fondly known as Mammukka, he was born on 7 September, 1951, in Chempu, a small village in Kottayam district of Kerala. Though he started his acting career in the 1971 film Anubhavangal Paalichakal, it was the KG George-directorial Mela featured him in the main lead role. Since then, the Big M of Malayalam cinema has acted in more than 395 films over a five-decade career.

Mammootty holds the third record for winning the maximum National Film Awards, after Mohanlal and Amitabh Bachchan along with Kamal Haasan. He has bagged 3 National awards, 7 Kerala state awards and 13 Filmfare awards for his acting.
