Ukrainian man bids tearful goodbye to family before staying behind to defend his city [See Pics]

As the Russian attacks on Ukraine continue, more than a million people have fled the country in order to dodge the horrors of the war. In Odessa, as a man bid an emotional farewell to his family at the train station, the images of the moment captured the heartbreaking episode.

In the images put out by NEXTA, a media organisation located in Eastern Europe, an Odessa man can be seen bidding farewell to his family, while his family looks at him tearfully from inside the train, the man is seen saying goodbye to his family, before walking away.

The picture of the man wiping his tears after saying goodbye to his family as they evacuate Ukraine while he stays back to defend the city, has become a sight repeated over and over again, in the war-torn country.

Under the martial law, Ukraine is not letting men aged between 18 and 60 to leave the country as they attempt to fight the Russian troops. Many women, too, are willingly taking up arms to fight Russia.

According to the UN human rights office, it has been able to confirm the deaths of 406 civilians in Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion. It said that another 801 injured civilians had been confirmed as of Sunday. The human rights office uses stern procedure and only reports casualties it has confirmed.

The UN human rights office says it believes the real figures are considerably higher, “especially in government-controlled territory and especially in recent days.”

In the meantime, Ukrainian authorities have presented far higher numbers of civilian casualties.
