1- Sexual intercourse with minor wife will be considered rape, says Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on 11 October said that sexual intercourse with wife below 18 years of age will be considered rape.

The apex court was hearing a petition filed by an NGO, Independent thought, which was seeking to criminalise sex with wife below 18 years.

The judgement of the Apex Court could affect more than 20 million child brides in India, the NGO has said.

3- Anupam Kher appointed as FTII chairman, Twitter erupts with reactions

Bollywood veteran Anupam Kher has been appointed as chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on 11th October, replacing Gajendra Chauhan.

The 62-years-old actor is the recipient of Padma Shri in 2004 and Padma Bhushan in 2016, is best known for his roles in Saaransh, Daddy, Ram Lakhan, Lamhe, Khel, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara among others.
Prior to joining the FTII as its chairman, Kher has also held the chairman's post in the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and National School of Drama (NSD).

4- Afghanistan: 27 Taliban insurgents killed during counter-terrorism operations

At least 23 militants belonging to Afghanistan's insurgent group Taliban were killed and 28 other injured during the operations in southern Zabul province of Afghanistan.

Afghan Ministry of Defence (MoD), confirming the casualties, said in a statement that the operations were conducted in Shahjoi and Mizan districts of the province, the Khaama Press reported.

5- Revised GST rates on Petroleum, Oil Sector incentivized by Finance Ministry

To reduce the cascading of taxes arising on account of non-inclusion of petrol, diesel, ATF, natural gas and crude oil in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and to incentivise investments in the exploration and production (E&P), and downstream sector, the Ministry of Finance on 11 October stated that notifications to give effect to the proposals would be issued shortly.
