Telangana: First year female student attempts suicide, senior student arrested

A second-year student has been arrested in connection with ragging charges after a first-year female student attempted suicide in Telangana's Warangal city, the police said on February 24.

According to the police, the first-year female student from MJM Hospital attempted to take her life on February 22. She was rushed to the hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.

The police reached the scene after receiving information, and after the initial probe, it was found that she was being ragged by senior students. A case was lodged under the SC/ST Act & Anti-Ragging Act, and a second-year student has been arrested in connection with the case.

“The victim is currently receiving treatment in Hyderabad and is in critical condition. Social media and personal chats between the two establish that its a case of ragging. Further investigation will be continued after receiving Toxicology report,” said Warangal Police Commissioner AV Ranganath.

Further investigation is underway.
