Shraddha murder case link to 'Dexter': How TV crime show inspired Aaftaab

American crime series Dexter has found itself in the middle of the storm of the Shraddha murder case after the arrested accused, identified as Aaftaab Poonawala, aged 28, revealed to the police he was inspired by the crime show to hack and get rid of his live-in partner’s dead body.

In May, the accused, Aaftaab Poonawala allegedly killed his 27-year-old live-in partner, identified as Shraddha Walkar. The accused told to the police that he wanted to “silence her” but ended up strangulating the victim.

The accused then dismembered Shraddha’s dead body and kept the parts in black poly bags, allegedly, inspired by the show’s main character, Dexter Morgan, acted by Michael C. Hall, who is shown to have homicidal ideation.

Talking about the show, Dexter is a forensic expert who works at the Miami Metro Police Department. While Dexter solves crimes in the morning, he lives a secret parallel life of a vigilante serial killer, hunting down and killing murderers who the justice system has not appropriately penalized.

The modus operandi of the fictitious charecter involves cutting his victims’ bodies and putting the chopped body parts inside black garbage bags. He then takes these bags in his vehicle and loads them onto a boat. After adding rocks to weigh down the bags and sealing them with tape, Dexter would throw them into the ocean.

After cutting Shraddha Walkar’s body parts, Aaftaab told the cops he had bought a brand new fridge to store them. He made multiple trips to the Mehrauli forest area over the next two to three months and threw the bags full of chopped body parts. Police sources revealed he removed the intestines first so that they could decompose easily.
