As monsoon knocks at Mumbai city, heavy rain lashes city resulting water logging in several parts of the city. The waterlogging in the city created chaos after the trains and road services were disrupted in the wee hours. The Indian Meteorological Department has said that heavy to very heavy rains were expected to continue. Two people died and five were injured on Sunday after a tree fell on them near Metro Cinema at MG Road in South Mumbai's Marine Lines area.

Due to heavy rain, a huge section of the compound wall of a complex in Mumbai's Wadala collapsed under Lloyds estate in Wadala's Antop Hill several cars stuck in debris.

The ongoing construction work in the vicinity reportedly weakened the boundary wall of the parking area which gave away in the rain, claim residents. "We had alerted the authorities but no action was taken. The wall collapsed this morning after heavy rain," said Anila Pillai, a consultant and resident of the complex.

Mumbai received 231.4 mm rain in the last 24 hours, an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. So much rainfall is categorised as extremely heavy showers, IMD Mumbai Director Ajay Kumar told news agency Press Trust of India.

"This is the first extremely heavy rainfall recorded in Mumbai in the current season. The rain intensity has gone up since yesterday afternoon and is expected to continue further," he said.

The Mumbai Police said they are prepared. "The showers are heavy but so is our 'bandobast' on the streets to 'be there' for Mumbaikars. We are #AlwaysUpForDuty to help you reach your destination with a little care & caution from you during your journey #RoadSafety #MumbaiRains," the official handle tweeted.
