In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old man was shot and killed Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district by his in-laws two brothers-in-law who were upset that he married their sister, police said on April 7.

Both brothers, identified as Rajpal Rajput and Lokesh Rajput, and their uncle Prem Singh Rajput have been arrested by the police on the murder charges.

The incident took place on the evening of April 5 when the trio spotted Lakhan Rajput in Rajgarh’s Dhanod village and attacked him. Prem Singh Rajput opened fire at the victim and shot two rounds at him. Bothe the brothers thrashed Lakhan with stones.

According to Machalpur police station in-charge Jitendra Ajnare one of the brother attacked Rajput with an iron rod that pierced his neck. The 25-year-old victim died on the spot.

Lakhan’s family alleged that they filed complaint about a threat to his life from his in-laws, who were not happy with the marriage, but police didn’t take any action.

Neetu Rajpur and Lakhan Rajput eloped and married last year. They were in a relationship for several years.

Police said that, Neetu’s family solemnised her marriage five years ago in Rajasthan, but she had a fight with her husband and came back home. In July, last year Neetu and Lakhan eloped and got married.

Lakhan sister Sapna Rajput stated that Neetu’s family was giving death threats to his brother and father. “My sister-in-law Neetu Rajput’s family was threatening to kill my brother and father. My sister-in-law had filed a police complaint but the police didn’t take any action. My brother was killed due to careless attitude of police,” the Hindustan Times quoted Sapna as saying.

Rajgarh Superintendent of Police, Veerendra Singh, stated that police are investigating whether the woman had filed any complaint about the death threats or not. “We are inquiring into the matter. If the woman has given any application and police didn’t act, then action will be taken against police personnel,” Singh said.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
