Fake cop extorts money from Mumbai paan shops, arrested

A man has been arrested for posing as a cop and extorting money from numerous paan shops in Mumbai, police said on April 14.

According to the police, the suspect carried a fake police ID and allegedly targeted paan shops in the city, extorting money from them under the pretext of allowing cigarettes to be sold in their outlets.

Sakinaka Police arrested the man and recovered several packets of foreign cigarettes from his possession.

The identity of the man has not been disclosed, and an investigation into the matter is underway.

Meanwhile, an actress (whose name has not been disclosed) filed a molestation case against a financier at Juhu Police Station.

In her complaint, the actress alleged that she was molested on the pretext of being paid for a video recording. When she opposed it, the man abused her and threatened to kill her.

Following the complaint, the police have registered a case under sections 354 (Sexual Harassment), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
