Andhra Pradesh: At least 11 workers dead after a major blast at a granite quarry in Kurnool

At least 11 workers died after a major blast occurred at a granite quarry in Kurnool district's Hathi Belgal village late Friday evening. Several people also succumbed with injured in the major blast.

As per the Alur police, the incident took place at around 7:15 pm on Friday evening. Police also suspect that a gelatin sticks placed at the site which might get blast. However, 20 workers were migrated from Odisha, who were present inside the premises.

Police also found a diesel tanker burning at the site, however, it is yet to confirmed that whether the blast was occurred because of the truck or not.

As per the reports of TOI, the local witnesses told that they heard the voice of huge blast and after which the villagers at Hathi Belgal and Molagavalli felt the noise and vibrations.

 

Reportedly, the impact of the explosion was so high that huge blocks of stone has been spread in the air from the quarry and fell on workers inside the site premises where nearly 30 labourers were taking rest after completing their task.

Due to the massive blast the three tractors, a truck and another shed also set on fire and got completely gutted.

As per the latest reports, eight bodies were taken out of a shed. Some more people were believed to be crushed under the stone blocks.
