UP horror: Girl gang-raped, set ablaze; dies after days long battle

In a horrifying incident reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district, a Dalit girl has lost her life after being allegedly gang-raped and set on fire by two men.

The alleged sexual assault on the teenager happened earlier this month in Kunwarpur village. After raping the girl, the accused poured diesel on her and set her ablaze. The victim had been fighting for her life at a hospital in Lucknow, but succumbed 12 days later.

Police have taken the two accused into their custody in connection with the case.

The deceased girl’s dead body will be handed over to her family in Pilibhit after post mortem in Lucknow.

In another similar incident, the dead body of a minor Dalit girl was recovered from a jungle behind a railway station in Faizganj, which falls under the jurisdiction of Behta police station of Budaun district on Saturday.

The victim’s family members have alleged that she was raped before being murdered.

As maintained by the police, the dead body of the 15-year-old victim was found in the Faizganj Behata police station area early Saturday and has been sent for autopsy.

The victim’s family has alleged that the Budaun police sent the body for post-mortem even before the arrival of the relatives. The officials did not even notify the family members before sending the body for autopsy.

"A policeman informed us that our daughter had met with an accident and called us to identify the body," the uncle of the deceased told PTI.

“The distance from our village to the incident site is one and a half kilometers,” he said, adding, “the police have erased all the evidence from the scene.”

Following the information, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) OP Singh arrived at the crime location. He said a case is being registered at the police station and strict action will be taken in this matter.

Furthermore, the SSP said an autopsy is being conducted by a panel of doctors and videography of the entire examination process will also be done.

As per the SSP, “Based on the final report, action will be taken by increasing the number of sections registered in the case and if someone is found guilty, that person will be arrested.”
