Mumbai girl kills mom, tries to pass it off as suicide

In an appalling incident reported from Navi Mumbai, a 15-years-old girl, who passed her SCC exams last week, strangled her mother, aged 40, to death using a karate belt after a fight over her studies, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on 30th July with the girl allegedly trying to show it as a suicide, but the post-mortem report established it to be a murder, investigating officer of Rabale Police Station, Assistant Police Inspector Dinesh Patil, said.

"There was an argument at home with the mother coaxing her daughter, who just cleared her SSC exams, to study well and take up a medical course, but the girl resented it and resorted to the extreme measure," Patil told.

The accused also tried to registered a police complaint against her mother last month, but the cops summoned her parents, including her father who is an engineer by profession with a private firm, and counselled them.

On 30th July, there was a fight at home over the girl’s studies when the accused pushed her mother who fell on the floor and sustained serious trauma injuries, said another IO Avinash Mahajan.

Later, in a fit of anger, the girl allegedly chocked her mother using a karate belt and dragged her dead body onto the bed, though it is not known if her younger brother was at home or not.

The accused then sent a message from her mother’s phone to her maternal uncle, claiming her mother locked herself inside the bedroom, apparently to pass off the crime as a suicide.

Weeks following the incident and trying to win over the girl's confidence, a woman constable finally managed to get her to confess to the crime she committed.

"The girl has admitted to the crime after a heated quarrel when she was in anger on July 30. Even the post-mortem report has confirmed that the cause of death was due to strangulation and the head injuries," Patil said.

The accused has been taken into police custody and will be produced before a Juvenile Board soon for further legal process. the police said, as the case revelations shocked the people around.
