Maharashtra: 23-year-old woman raped, pushed out of moving train

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped, hit with a heavy object on the head and thrown out of a moving train. She was found severely injured on the railway tracks on Vashi creek bridge in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the manager of the Vashi railway station notified the railway police that an injured woman was lying on tracks on the Vashi creek bridge, approximately 2.5 km away from the station. Following this, GRP constable went rushing to the spot and discovered the woman lying there with serious injuries and bruises on her body.

“Shinde went to the spot and brought the woman to Vashi GRP station. As she was severely wounded and was bleeding from the head, she was given first aid and taken to NMMC hospital in Vashi. The medical officer examined her and shifted her to JJ Hospital. She barely managed to tell us her name and that she was from Titwala,” a report by The TOI quoted GRP senior inspector Vishnu Kesarkar as saying.

After this, the police located the victims family and found out that she used to work as a domestic help in Powai. The victim used to visit her family only on the weekends. After leaving from home for Powai on Sunday, she had not spoken to any of her family members.

An offence under various sections of the IPC, section 307 (attempt to murder) and 376 (rape) has been lodged. Investigating officers have looked into CCTV footage of all station from Thane and Panvel till Vashi, but they didn’t spot the woman boarding any train.

She has been put on oxygen support and her medical examination report is awaited. Her statement will be taken after she comes back to her senses.
