In a bizarre incident coming in from Gurugram, a man went to extreme extents by planning his own kidnapping and then demanding a ransom of Rs 2 lakh from his wife. His attempt, however failed as his wife registered a police complaint, which led to his arrest.

According to reports, the wife, identified as Deepika, a resident of Rajiv Nagar, filed a complaint at the Sector 29 police station on January 2, in her complaint, the woman mentioned that her husband, identified as Anoop Yadav, has been kidnapped from a city club. She also mentioned that the “kidnappers” were demanding Rs 2 lakh to safely leave her husband.

Based on the complaint, the police lodged a case and initiated efforts to trace Anoop’s whereabouts. Making use of technical surveillance, the police traced his location to Manesar. At a subsequent time, his arrest was recorded from the IMT Manesar Chowk, according to a report by The Times of India.

The man, during interrogation, told the cops that he owed money to some lenders. He decided to stage the kidnapping after the lenders pressured him to pay all his debt and he was unable to arrange funds. “He was hoping to get Rs 2 lakh from his wife and repay the debt. He had not anticipated that his wife would approach the police,” the TOI report quoted ACP Preet Pal as saying.

In another incident reported in 2020, a Delhi man allegedly planned his own kidnapping and demanded ransom money from his parents for his safe release. He staged his own abduction after racking up huge debts and losing money on an online trading app.

After some days, a man from UP registered a complaint at the Desh Bandhu Gupta Road police station in the national capital, mentioning that his son, named Sushant, has gone missing. His cellphone had been switched off since September 19. The complainant, on September 27, received a message from his missing son’s phone number.

The message read that Sushant had to pay him Rs 75,000. He threatened to murder Sushant if the amount was not given to him. Following this police started an investigation.The police nabbed the youth from Chandni Chowk area. The youth, during interrogation, disclosed that he planned his own abduction in order to extort money from his parents.
