Aligarh Shocker: Locals pelt stones at police after being asked to close shops amid COVID-19 fear

Another attack on frontline workers has been reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district on Wednesday. A clash broke out between police and a group of people in the city’s Bhujpura area amid coronavirus lockdown.

Locals have started pelting stones at police after they were asked to close shops due to the lockdown.

According to the reports in ANI, the Circle Officer said, "vegetable sellers were quarreling among themselves when shops were being closed. When Police intervened, people started pelting stones at them.”

He also added that the locals started attacking the police with stones after defying to follow the lockdown orders.

Police forces were sent to the areas to control the situation. To provide the essential services, the government allowed people to open shops from 6 am to 10 am every day. Several people are not following the orders properly and violating lockdown orders.

This is not the first case where police or frontline workers have been attacked by people.

Earlier in West Bengal on Tuesday, a similar incident was reported where people attacked Police.

The clash broke out between Police and locals after local police objected to people on why roads are being blocked.

According to news agency ANI, the locals were alleging improper distribution of ration material amid the coronavirus lockdown in Baduria, North 24 Parganas in West Bengal.

Earlier in Aligarh, two positive cases of COVID-19 reported and out of the two, one patient died on Tuesday.

Moreover, India has been put on lockdown till May 3 due to the outbreak of the virus across the country.

Meanwhile in India, the number of positive cases for coronavirus has reached over 19,000 and the death toll climbed to 640.
