Virat Kohli, Sunil Chhetri react sharply to Kerala elephant killing

The appalling report of the death of an elephant in the state of Kerala after being fed a pineapple filled with fireworks has induced serious outburst in the country, citizens are taking to social media to denounce the incident and suggesting authorities to take stern action against people who were accountable for it.

Indian cricket skipper Virat Kohli and football captain Sunil Chhetri too issued a tweet regarding the incident and asked everyone to treat animals with care and love.

"Appalled to hear about what happened in Kerala. Let's treat our animals with love and bring an end to these cowardly acts," Kohli tweeted along with a cartoon of a pregnant elephant.

"She was a harmless, pregnant Elephant. That makes the people who did what they did, monsters and I hope so hard that they pay a price. We keep failing nature over and over again. Remind me how we’re the more evolved species?" Chhetri tweeted.

A pregnant elephant was brutally put to death in Kerala’s Malappuram, on 27th May following a pineapple stuffed with fireworks offered by a local blew up in her mouth.

The pregnant elephant was unable to eat because of her injuries and died while standing in water. The incident was brought to notice after a forest officer gave an account of the incident on social media.

In the mean time, Kerala CM Pinaraya Vijayan has made sure that firm action will be taken against those behind the killing of the 15-year-old pregnant elephant.

"Strict action will be taken against those who are responsible for killing the pregnant elephant. Forest department is probing the case and the culprits will be brought to book" Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala CM said on Wednesday.
