Rohit Sharma lauds New Zealand U-19 team's encouraging gesture during World Cup quarter-final clash against WI

Indian opener Rohit Sharma took to his official twitter handle on Thursday to acknowledge the heartwarming gesture displayed by New Zealand U-19 team during the second quarter final of the Under-19 World Cup.

In the knockout match, New Zealand got the better of the West Indies side as they chased down the target of 239 runs. During the West Indies’ innings, Kirk McKenzie sustained cramps and was retired hurt at the end of the 43rd over.

McKenzie came back to the crease in the 48th over but he was dismissed on the very next delivery by Kristian Clarke. As the Caribbean Side were bundled out for 238, McKenzie laboured to walk off the field. Two New Zealand players came to McKenzie’s aid and carried him off the field.

"So good to see this #SpiritOfCricket at its best," Rohit Sharma tweeted while sharing the video of the incident.

 

In the match, the West Indies won the toss and chose to bat in the second quarter final of the Under-19 World Cup.

The West Indies were bundled out for 238, putting up a target of 239 for the New Zealand to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.

In response, New Zealand lost their first wicket with just four runs on the board as Matthew Forde dismissed Ollie White for a duck.

New Zealand then lost three wickets in quick succession and were 67/4 at one point. Clark then displayed his skill with the bat and played an unbeaten knock of 46 to help his side chase the 239 runs target with two balls remaining.

With the successful outcome, the Kiwis have joined up with India as the second semi-finalist.
