From Gulabo Sitabo to Shershaah, upcoming Bollywood films to release on OTT platforms

As the nation is going through a lockdown, the business has come to a standstill and the most hit industry is the entertainment one. Several big-budget films that were supposed to release this year are now waiting for their turn to hit the silver screens amid the Coronavirus crisis. Apart from big-budget films, many films have diverted their focus to OTT platforms.

A few days ago makers of Laxmmi Bomb confirmed that the film will release in Disney+Hotstar instead of theatres as they are quite skeptical due to the current situation. Even if the lockdown is lifted there’s no guarantee if people would be willing to throng movie theatres like the way they did earlier. Not just this there are possibility’s that delay in the release of the films will result in a clash at the box-office and hindering the earning of the film.

After seeing Laxmmi Bomb making its way to OTT platform other filmmakers are now eyeing to release their film on OTT. So here we are with the list of films that are set for their digital release while some are yet in talks for digital release.

1. Laxmmi Bomb (Disney+Hotstar)

Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer was supposed to release on 22nd May however now owing to the current situation the film has been pushed further. Since there’s a lot of post-production work left so the makers have decided to release the film in June on Disney+Hotstar. The film helmed by Raghava Lawrence is a remake of Kanchana. The film revolves around a man possessed by the ghost of a transgender.

2. Gulabo Sitabo (Amazon Prime Video)

Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer is a family comedy-drama. The film was supposed to release last month i.e April however owing to the current situation the release got delay. Shoojit Sircar directorial will release on 12th June on Amazon Prime Video.

3. Ghoomketu (Zee5)

Starring Nawazudding Siddiqui and Anurag Kashyap, the film revolves around the life of a struggling writer. The film helmed by Pushpendra Nath Mishra has made its way to Zee5 and will start streaming from 22nd May.

4. Shershaah (Netflix)

Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani the film is a biopic on the life of Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Vikram Batra. As per the reports, the film might release on its assigned date i.e 3rd July. The film will make its way on Netflix for an OTT release.

Talking about the films that are still in talks with the respective platforms are Kiara Advani’s Indoo Ki Jawani. As per reports, the film is in talks with Netflix and soon there will be an announcement regarding the same. Amitabh Bachchan and Rajkummar Rao’s Ludo; Janhvi Kapoor’s Gunjan Saxena; Ananya Panday and Ishaan Khatter’s Khaali Peeli are also eyeing Netflix to release their film.

Vidhya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi is eyeing Amazon Prime Video to release the film, however, there is yet no announcement regarding the same. While Kriti Sanon’s Mimi is eyeing Hotstar for its release.
