US President Donald Trump is once again ready to assist India and Pakistan over their most talked about issue Kashmir, the White House said on Thursday. They even said that Washington was very closely monitoring the situation since a long time.

The tension between India and Pakistan tightened after the Indian government scrapped Article 370 from the state of Jammu-Kashmir. The government also snatched the special state tag from the state and also divided into two Union Territories Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh on 5th August.

"The United States is watching the situation in Kashmir very closely. We are continuing to call for calm and restraint, including on rhetoric," a senior administration official said before the bilateral meeting between Trump and India's PM Modi on the sidelines of G7 summit in France.

However, India has already clear that matter to the international community that scrapping article 370 from Jammu-Kashmir is our internal matter and Pakistan should accept the reality.

"What he (Trump) has indicated that he is ready to assist if both sides are interested in helping to reduce their tension. But we just know that India has not requested any formal mediation," the official said requesting anonymity.

The official said that Trump is very focused on the situation in Kashmir because of the broader implication of the development in Jammu and Kashmir. The official also said that Trump will hear how PM Modi intends to calm regional tensions after scrapping Article 370.
