Outgoing United States President Barack Obama is known to be an ardent reader; he is othersa great lover of different genres like literature, history, popular fiction along with others.

Recently, Obama recommended a reading list containing books from various genres to his 18-year-old daughter, Malia.

Obama told Michiko Kakutani, the New York Times chief book critic that two of the classics he suggested his 18-year-old to read were Norman Mailer's The Naked and the Dead and One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez.

The US President showed his keen interest in some not-so-popular books as well and he didn't forget to add those books in the list.

"Then there were some books I think that are not on everybody's reading list these days, but I remembered as being interesting, like The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing, for example. Or The Woman Warrior, by Maxine [Hong Kingston]," he said.
