Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is on his visit to United States of America's West Coast, today reached San Jose, California for addressing the members of the Indian community at the SAP centre.

Here are key highlights from PM Modi's speech:

  • It is 28th September in India. It is the birth anniversary of the brave son of India, Bhagat Singh. I bow down to him.

  • I have come to California after 25 years. I can see a lot of change. I see new faces.

  • Today, there is a new image of India, a new perception of India in the world. People are moved to change their perception of the old India. This is the magic of your fingers at the computers.

  • Sitting here, with your innovations, you are compelling the world to change. And the people who refuse to change, are soon going to become irrelevant.

  • We often keep hearing that we need to stop this brain drain. But India is 'Bahuratna Vasundhara', there will be many brains there. We're not going to lose our crop of brains due to brain drain. I have a very different way of looking at it, and we must reverse brain drain to 'brain gain'.

  • The brain gain that we have made is looking for opportunities and the day it finds the opportunities. It will benefit Mother India. And now that season for opportunity has come, he says.

  • Our Sikh brothers came here years ago and began living here. When Indians wanted freedom, there was a movement for India's freedom here too. No one can forget the contribution of the Ghadar Party in India's freedom struggle.

  • Jayaprakash Narayan ji, who led the movement when emergency was imposed in India in 1975, studied in California. This is the bond we have, said the PM.

  • There's a discussion across the world about the who the 21st century belongs to. It is being believed that the 21st century is India's century.

  • People often ask me where I get my confidence from. They ask me how I'm so sure that my nation will progress ahead. I have faith in the nation because India is youthful. 65% of our population is under the age of 35.

  • Taking a dig at opposition Congress in San Jose, PM Modi said, "It doesn't take much for politicians to get allegations to their name. The son made Rs 50 crore, the daughter made Rs 250 crore, the son-in law made Rs 1,000 crore. The relative got the contract. The people of India are sick of corruption."

  • India is the first country to be successful at Mars mission in its first attempt. In the first attempt, the same happened in my case.

  • e-governance is easy, effective and economical governance. Technology has given a new strength and direction to entire world. Acknowledging that, we have initiated 'Digital India'.

  • When I took office, came to Delhi, I was pained to see, about 50 per cent Indians had not seen the doors of a bank. We took the initiative of opening their bank accounts. Today, 18 crore new accounts are opened.

  • 30 lakh people have voluntarily surrendered their gas cylinder subsidies. This is the strength which will take the country forward.

  • Today the world is facing two main challenges which are terorism and global warning. We need to tackle these menaces.

  • The UN still hasn't been able to define terrorism. If it takes so much time just to define, how will we be able tackle it.

  • We cannot safeguard mankind from either 'good terrorism' or 'bad terrorism'. Terrorism is terrorism.

  • From 2 December, 2015 Air India will start a direct flight from Delhi to San Francisco.
